Here's a quickie tech tree guide. Note that for the Barrier cannon, upgrading either Left or Right allows access to Up or Down.

There seems to be an inconsistency in the tree:
Heavy I -Heavy II --Heavy III -> Heavy IV --Missile Launcher -> Missile Launcher II -Impact I -> Impact II -> Impact III --Ice -> Ice II In italics, the next two versions of a turret are pushed onto a new spot, but in bold they are not. |

Impact canons upgrade from a Heavy II tower. Heavy III and Heavy 4 can also upgrade from a Heavy II. 2 different options, impact, or heavier.
