Arrow Pulse Emitters vs. Flamethrowers

Lets do some math here. For non-upgraded:



Lets calculate damage/second.



Pulse Emitter: 750 damage/6 seconds = 125 dmg/sec

Flamethrower: 4 damage/ 0.15 seconds = 26 2/3 dmg/sec



Now cost.



Pulse Emitter = $1000

Flamethrower = $600


Pulse Emitters cost 1 2/3 X as much as the flamethrower.



Multiply 26 2/3 by by 1 2/3.



Pulse Emitter Value: 125

Flamethrower Value: 44.444444



Finally range.


Flamethrowers have 120 range and Pulse Emitters 70. Not even twice as much.

Pulse Emitters though have a blast radius of 70 while flamethrowers have 25. This means that Pulse Emitters hit almost 3 times as many targets, which I think more than makes up for the range.



Now for fully upgraded tower comparison.



Pulse Emitter: 6000 damage/ 6 seconds = 1000 dmg/sec

Flamethrower: 32 damage/ 0.15 seconds = 213 1/3 dmg/sec




Pulse Emitter: $6600

Flamethrower: $3960



Pulse Emitter Value: 1000

Flamethrower Value: 355.5555555



Flamethrowers have 135 range and Pulse Emitters have 85. About 1 1/2 X as much range.


Pulse Emitters have a blast radius of 85, Flamethrowers have a blast radius of 25. 3.4 X as much.




Unless I made an error somewhere, (which I probably did [Tiny numbers on the game screen...]), Pulse Emitters are better even if i did make an error somewhere it probably will not matter much. Correct me if I am wrong though.



Sorry bierkieser, I crunched the numbers. Pulse emitters are a better value.

Ok, but for the Pulse Emitters:
Lets suppose it would take 5 seconds to a creep get out of the Pulse Emitters range. It wont hit it once. Is ok that in your post you did as if Pulse Emitters hit per second and Flamethrowers too just to compare them, but its just not their real rate. But Pulse Emitters win anyway

I'm not going to dispute the math. Just looking at it the pulse should be more powerful. The problem is keeping each creep in range for 6 seconds. I've been playing with the maps to see how to best use the pulse. I did get to 180 on FoBD (ground only) quick cash using pulse and a couple of heavy cannons. I just seem to be able to milk more damage out of flame throwers. If I can maximize the pulse, I should be able to get farther.

Considering a non-upgraded pulse emitter got to fire once in that 6 seconds, it would do 750 dmg.

A flamethrower does a total of 160 dmg in 6 seconds.

For upgraded, a pulse emitter does 6000, while a flamethrower does 1280 dmg.


Pulse emitters do about 4.6X as much damage with one shot as a flamethrower does in the 6 seconds it takes for a pulse emitter to shoot.

It will hit enough enemies at a time to make up for it, while doing considerably more damage.

already thought of letting enemies pass the pulse several times? in diagonal struktures f.e. they can hit 4 times!
